Why Meta Ads Are Hard to Get Right

Meta has made their platform more automated over the years. That's great news for Meta. It's not automatically great news for you.

When everything is automated, what you still control becomes the difference between winning and losing. Here's what actually matters:

Who you're targeting. There are three groups you need to reach differently. Cold audiences who don't know you yet. Warm audiences who've seen your brand but haven't bought. And hot audiences who almost bought and just need a nudge. Each group needs different ads and different messaging.

Your creative. The ad itself is the biggest single factor in how your Meta campaigns perform right now. A bad creative kills a campaign even if everything else is perfect. I treat creative as a strategic decision, not a design task.

Your landing page. Getting a click is only half the job. If the page someone lands on is slow, confusing or unconvincing, you paid for nothing.

Your tracking. Since Apple's iOS changes, Meta's standard tracking misses a lot of conversions from iPhone users. That makes your ROAS look better than it really is, and your campaigns start optimising on bad signals. The fix is Conversion API, which I set up for every single client.

Why Your Meta ROAS Might Be Lying to You

This is something most advertisers in India don't know about yet.

Since Apple's iOS 14 update, iPhone users can opt out of cross-app tracking. When they do, Meta can't track what they do after clicking your ad. That means if they go and buy something, Meta doesn't see it and doesn't count it as a conversion.

The result? Your real conversion numbers are higher than Meta is showing, but your campaigns are only learning from the conversions they can see. So they optimise based on incomplete data and start behaving in weird ways.

02What's the minimum spend to start?
At least Rs 50,000 a month in ad spend. My management fee starts at Rs 35,000 a month on the Starter plan. Below that, the campaign learning phase takes too long and it's hard to know what's actually working.
03How do you handle ad creative?
